Oliver Stone to visit Iran for Fajr fest

Celebrated US writer/director Oliver Stone is set to come to Iran for latest run of Fajr International Film Festival.

The cineaste will be hosted by Fajr fest in Iran, the film event said in a media release on Wednesday, adding a detailed program has been scheduled to take advantage of Stone’s presence in Iran.

The fest director Reza Mirkarimi said of the visit that Stone had earlier “shown his eagerness” to travel to Iran.  

As a director, Stone achieved prominence as director and writer of the war drama 'Platoon' (1986), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Director. The writer also has an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay under his belt

Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr International Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.

The 36th edition of the festival is slated for April 19-27, 2018, in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.
